CCI Presiding Bishop

I am Joseph Mburu Kamiri, the CCI Presiding Bishop. I was born in 1953 at Gatitu village in Kandara Division in Murang’a District. I grew up in the Church of the Province of Kenya (CPK) and got saved in 1969 in Thika Technical Secondary School where I first met with Bishop Mulandi. I joined the Baptist Church in 1971after I left CPK because they condemned those who claimed to be Spirit filled. I am a trained Technical teacher and have taught in many schools and I was lecturing at Kenya Science Teachers Training College till I retired in 2007.

I am married to Martha Muthoni and we have 3 children. After getting married we joined PAG (Pentecostal Assemblies of God) Thika and we served God there until 1985 when we decided to leave and join CCI the then ACCEA Miteero and took over Pastoral work from Bishop Godfrey Gakure who was the Senior Pastor. In 1999, I was transferred to Juja Joy where I took over from Pastor Byler as the Senior Pastor. I also became the Nairobi Diocese Overseer when the Central Diocese was sub-divided into Regions and in 2004 I became the Nairobi Diocese Bishop. In 2007 I was elected as CCI Presiding Bishop and enthroned in February 2008.

Juja Joy was started by Bishop Mulandi as a feeding program and later became a Church where we had other Pastors who served at diff aren’t times namely; Pastor Ben Mutuku, Rev. Simon Kabocho, Pastor Wycliff Embella and Rev. Byler. The Joy Family has grown and developed other ministries including; Joy Spring studio and a Nursery school, a Music School and an upcoming Church Cathedral.

Joy Family has planted 2 other churches; one CCI Oasis of Grace at Green field and Springs of Joy at Gachororo. Our members mainly come from the University, JKUAT and in total we are about 360 people. Since my enthronement as the CCI Presiding Bishop we have regained back some churches that had been planted in Rwanda back in the early nineties by a Pastor who had been commissioned by Bishop Mulandi. For some years the Pastor did not relate with the church in Kenya, until in 2008 when he visited my office. The following year (2009), we visited Rwanda, saw the Churches and Consecrated the Pastor to a Bishop.

We have devised other systems where the national events and projects, like AGM and the local churches are financing conferences. For Pastors to be authorized, one has to have some theological training from a recognized institution.

I have come to know that the Presiding Bishop’s office is a very challenging office where one should not come for prestige but for service. I personally did not want to come to this office, because I knew exactly what is here. And so even mentoring might be a little bit hard. I say that unless our system changes it may be difficult to operate without finances, but we keep trusting God to help His people to support His work faithfully.
